The Fort Stockton Panthers and Prowlers capped off their crosscountry season with strong performances at the Lubbock Invitational and District Meet in Andrews. Both events tested the team’s endurance and determination as they competed against some of the toughest runners in the region.

West Texas Oasis Celebrated as Newest National Natural Landmark

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in Texas hosted a special ceremony last month to celebrate the dedication of its Independence Creek Preserve in Sheffield as a National Natural Landmark (NNL). The preserve, a nearly 20,000-acre “desert oasis” in the Chihuahuan Desert of West Texas, was officially honored with a dedication ceremony on Friday, September 26.

The historical integrity of Fort Stockton is hanging on the microscopic analysis of wood fibers, as a major scientific effort seeks to definitively date the town’s most enduring landmark, the aptly named “Oldest House” adobe ruins. Long identified as the oldest structure in Fort Stockton, the ruins, located at 601 S.
