Paisano Pete, the iconic 22foot roadrunner statue that has long greeted travelers along U.S. Highway 285, recently received a bold new look as part of a public art revitalization project in Fort Stockton.

I guess that little grey kitten, now a half-grown cat, now stays at our front door waiting to be petted and for food but there is one problem. He likes to catch and kill little birds. Normally that would not be a problem, but I like to put out bird seed in front of the house and watch the different birds eating them. I have watched that cat so many times as he quietly sneaks upon unsuspecting birds and catches them. Sometimes he will lie down nearby and act like he is not paying attention to them and then it's too late for little birdie. That cat reminds me of something in the Bible. It says we have an enemy or adversary and he wants to destroy us, (John 8:44 &17:15). He prowls around trying to find ways to trap us, (1 Peter 5:8). He may start out by getting us hooked on drugs, alcohol or sex and many times he uses false religions or false gods to ensnare us, (1 Timothy 3:72 :Timothy 2:24-26). It could be pleasures, wealth or fame, anything to keep us from drawing near to God and knowing Him. He just wants to keep us ensnared till our life on earth runs out and then it is too late, (John 10:10). Then we are headed for eternal separation from God, (John 3:16-20). That is just what Satan wants!

The course of life is defined by the road we choose. Psalm 1 draws a clear contrast between the path of the godly and the way of the wicked, reminding us that true blessing is found in separation from sin, saturation in the Word of God, and a steadfast, fruitful life that brings glory to God. In a world driven by shifting values and unstable foundations, Psalm 1 calls believers to live within well-defined parameters, guided by the truth of Scripture.

The 2025 Pecos League season is underway, and the Alpine Cowboys have already shown flashes of grit, power, and promise despite a rocky 2-4 start. Under the guidance of newly appointed manager Lance Myers, the Cowboys split a six-game opening homestand that included a hard-fought series against the Pecos Bills and a dramatic extra-inning battle with the Tucson Saguaros.

The Fort Stockton High School cheerleaders are fired up and ready to bring the energy this fall after a successful showing at their summer cheer camp, held May 29 through June 1 at Texas A&M University in College Station.

In a district filled with powerhouse programs — including a state finalist, a state quarterfinalist, and a regional semifinalist — the Fort Stockton Prowlers proved they could hold their own. As the dust settles on the 2025 softball season, several Prowlers are being recognized for their excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
