“The Firebird” Ballet for Fort Stockton

Thanks to a partnership between the Fort Stockton Community Theatre and the Midland Festival Ballet, Fort Stockton residents can enjoy complimentary tickets to the closing production of “The Firebird.” The performances will take place on Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30, at the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center in Midland. A limited number of 30 tickets per performance are available for Fort Stockton residents.

Although he was searching for deer, a hunter at the O2 Ranch (a privately owned ranch in Brewster and Presidio counties) found something very different and a little puzzling. Could it be a mammoth tusk? In West Texas? “I was skeptical when a deer hunter showed me a picture of what he thought was a fossil,” says O2 Ranch Manager Will Juett.

House proposes $7.5 billion in new school funding

Critics say a state House bill proposing $7.5 billion in new funding for public education doesn’t go far enough, The Dallas Morning News reported. House Bill 2 would raise the per-student allotment by $220, to $6,360 a year. It would also invest $750 million in teacher pay and $450 million in teacher training.

The Fort Stockton Panthers baseball team put together an impressive stretch of games over the past week, going 3-1 in the West Texas Classic before picking up another key win over Reagan County. The Panthers demonstrated their ability to battle through adversity, bounce back from tough losses, and deliver clutch performances, improving their overall record to 9-4.

The Fort Stockton Panthers Powerlifting Team had a strong showing at the Regionals Powerlifting Meet, held March 7-8 at Abilene Wylie High School. With six Panthers qualifying for the regional competition, the team showcased their strength and determination, with one lifter earning a spot at the state meet.
