GUEST COLUMNIST We are the Cubs from Den 3/And no one could be prouder/If you cannot hear our shout/We’ll yell a little LOUDER. That chant from my Cub Scout pack-meeting days comes to mind as I explore the issue of moderationchallenged speakers, or, as the prestigious American Psychiatric Association clinically labels them, “bozos who wouldn’t know an indoor voice if it bit them on the rear.” Surely you could name some loud talkers.

FS sending four to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where incoming high school seniors engage in low ropes and high ropes activities and develop skills as leaders while having fun and making connections.

The Rotary Club of Fort Stockton sponsors four students with a scholarship to attend the weeklong camp.

This year’s camp was from July 9-15, with another camp July 15-21. For next year, students can contact the local Rotary Club or any of their members for an application.

Our beautiful baby girl, Gabriella Navarrete (Gabby, Ella), 18 young years of age, of Weatherford, was tragically taken on July 4, in Fort Worth.

Marylou Carrasco Benavides, 64, of Fort Stockton, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, in Fort Stockton. 

Prayer Service was held on Sunday, July 2 at 6 p.m. by Pastor Jesus Guevara and Rosary recited at 7p.m. at Eternity Funeral Home Chapel. 

Funeral Service was held on Monday, July 3 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Fransis Njoku officiating. Burial followed at the St. Joseph Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Eternity Funeral Home.

Senaida Ureta González

It is with great sadness that the family of Senaida Ureta González announce her death after a rapid battle with cancer, on June 27, 2023, in Kingsland, Texas. Known as “Nana” by most of her family, she was 88, and died peacefully with members of her family by her side. She was a native of Fort Stockton, Texas, and daughter of Cosme Damian Urueta (Ureta) and Josefina García Ureta.

When most new physicians complete their residency, they move on to bigger and better things. After completing his residency at Pecos County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Cristian Medina discovered at PCMH and Fort Stockton was the best thing for his family.
