The Theatre of the Big Bend opens its 58th season under the stars on Friday, July 7, at 8 p.m. with musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” by Rachel Sheinkin and score by William Finn.

Delia Jean Covington Mayes

Delia Jean Covington Mayes was born on May 8, 1928 in Floydada, Texas to Francis Milton Covington and Mattie Emma Hall-Covington. She was named for her paternal great-grandmother, Martha Adelia Clark. When she was one year old, she, parents, and older brother Bob moved to Daugherty, Texas. Several years later, two more brothers, Jack and Kent were born.

County continues COVID pay and leave

While the Covid-19 pandemic is behind us, for the most part, the Pecos County Commissioner’s Court on May 22 decided to keep it’s Covid -ay and leave policy as-is. “They’ve basically said Covid is not as hazardous as it was during the Covid era of the past couple of years,” said County Judge Joe Shuster.
