Mendoza to fight in New Mexico Feb. 24

Eyeing a bout for a world title fight or a big-name opponent by the end of the year, undefeated boxer Abel Mendoza (36-0) will continue his quest in his second Triller-promoted fight later this month.

Panther football: New offseason program underway

Accountability, relentless effort, being tough, and being detailed oriented.

The four pillars are the foundation that is currently under construction in the Fort Stockton football program under the guidance of first-year head football coach and athletic director Jeremy Hickman.

The Fort Stockton native is in the process of implementing an entirely new, five-phase offseason program that he learned over a decade ago during his time as a coach at Cypress Woods High School.

Dollar General expanding to second Fort Stockton Location

Fort Stockton will soon have another shopping option as the Fort Stockton Economic Development Corporation Executive Director announced in January that Dollar General is looking to expand in Fort Stockton.  

“They’re expanding to a new location,” said EDC Director Remie Ramos, adding that the company has not given him a time frame for when the new store will be built. 

The current Dollar General isn’t going anywhere, as it recently renewed its lease on the current building at Dickinson Boulevard and Oklahoma Street.

Capital Highlights: Ice storm wreaks havoc in much of state

Residents in Central and Northeast Texas are still cleaning up after a winter storm last week snapped power lines and tree limbs, causing widespread power outages, canceled flights and damage to homes and vehicles.

At its peak, nearly 400,000 Texas households were without power, according to poweroutage.us. As of Sunday, that number had dropped to 62,456.

Lady Loboes get best of Prowlers in rematch

Fort Stockton had an opportunity to clinch a playoff birth against Monahans in their second-to-last game of the regular season on Feb. 3 at the Special Events Center.

A frigid offensive performance by the Prowlers in the first half largely prevented the feat from coming to fruition.

Lobo 3-pointers rain on Panthers’ hot start, propel Monahans to win

An upset was brewing in Pantherland on Friday during the early stages of a heated rivalry between Fort Stockton and Monahans.

Or so it seemed when the first quarter ended and the Panthers were ahead 14-9.

Robert Brooks and Kyle Vanek had something else to say about it.

The Lobo duo scored 28 of their 30 combined points in the final three quarters of play, including five 3-pointers in the second quarter, to lead their team 57-46 victory.

Clayton “Claytie” Riley Alexander passed away peacefully in his home on Jan. 22, 2023,  after an 18-month battle with cancer.

KFC holds Ribbon Cutting

Two years after a fire destroyed the KFC and Taco Bell, the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the new KFC, Friday morning, Feb. 3. The restaurant officially reopened on Feb. 2. The new Taco Bell next door opened a few weeks ago.
