Inmate Arrests Report – Pecos County Jail (Jan. 31- Feb. 12)

Justin Andrew Wells, of Jennings, Louisiana at 5:15 p.m., officers with the Department of Public Safety apprehended Wells and charged him with possession of a controlled substance penalty group two less than one gram and possession of marijuana less than two ounces. Wells received bonds totaling $4,500 and was released Feb. 1.

Lilia “Lilly” Gonzalez, 62, of Fort Stockton, Texas passed away on Feb. 11, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. 

A visitation will take place on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, from 12-7 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend, 301 N. Main Street, Fort Stockton, Texas. Funeral Services will be Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at People Church of Fort Stockton with burial to follow at East Hill Cemetery. Pastor Victor Lopez of People Church will be officiating.

County contracts with Emergent Air for non-emergency transport

The Pecos County Commissioner’s Court on Feb. 13 amended a contract between Emergent Air and Pecos County EMS to provide ambulance services for Emergent Air flight crews from the Fort Stockton Airport to Pecos County Memorial Hospital and back. Emergent Care is strictly a fixed-wing service, no helicopters and they are based in El Paso but operate out of Alpine.

City calls for May 6 general election

Democracy will once again be in action this spring as the Fort Stockton city council officially called for a municipal election to take place May 6. Three seats will be up for grabs – Place 2, held by Ruben Falcon; Place 1, held by Paul Casias, and Mayor Chris Alexander.

Golf teams open season in Pecos

The Panthers and Prowlers golf teams traveled to Pecos for the 2023 Pecos Invitational Feb. 10-11 and competed well for the first tournament of the year according to Fort Stockton head coach Lea Daggett.

GARDENER’S MAILBAG Dear Neil: What can I do with the beautiful amaryllis, hyacinths and miniature daffodils I received at the holidays now that they have finished blooming? I would like to plant them and enjoy them again. Plant the daffodils into an appropriate part of your perennial garden where they can grow undisturbed.

Panther powerlifters place third in district

The Fort Stockton Panthers Powerlifting team competed in the district meet on Thursday and finished third overall with 11 of the 12 lifters posting personal record totals. The following is the Panther results for their respective weight divisions: 114 – Jonas Milan, third place 123 – Mario Morales, third place 132 – Louie Ramos, fourth place 148 – Leeland Ibarra, first place 165 – Fabian Silva, third place 181 – Jovanny Hernandez, first place 181 – Jose Hernandez, fourth place 198 – Justin Sanchez, first place 220 – Jose Sarabia, fifth place 242 – Ethan Jimenez, fifth place 275 – Andres Sotelo, second place 308 – Oasis Webb, fourth place The Panthers will compete in the Pecos LCQ on Feb.
