Gilbert Lawrence Balch, 85 years and eight days, died July 30, 2022, at his home in Baird, Texas. Funeral services took place Aug. 2, 2022, at Cowboy Heritage Church in Clyde, Texas, with Rev. Mike Hudson officiating. Graveside services were held Aug. 2, 2022, in the Coleman City Cemetery.

Border Patrol agents assisted in recovery of a deceased person
U.S. Border Patrol agents from Sanderson Station last week assisted in the recovery of a migrant family’s adult daughter out in the desert as they received information from the parents that the daughter was left behind.
Lira visits Pecos County, Pioneer

Red yuccas need time to get established
Dear Neil: I planted red yuccas last year, and they bloomed beautifully. Last winter when I started to prune the old bloom stalks, they were so brittle that I just pulled them out. This year I had no blooms. Will they bloom next year, or do I need to plant new plants?
