Gilbert Lawrence Balch, 85 years and eight days, died July 30, 2022, at his home in Baird, Texas. Funeral services took place Aug. 2, 2022, at Cowboy Heritage Church in Clyde, Texas, with Rev. Mike Hudson officiating. Graveside services were held Aug. 2, 2022, in the Coleman City Cemetery. Visitation was Aug. 1, 2022, at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home in Clyde.

Lira visits Pecos County, Pioneer

Democrat John Lira, candidate for Texas House Representatives District 23, visited Pecos County and the Fort Stockton Pioneer on July 29 as a part of his ‘Boots on the Ground Tour’ that features stops in all 29 counties that make up the district. Lira spoke on his desire to update asylum laws to improve the immigration process, implementing enhanced background checks/license as a requirement to acquire semi-automatic weapons, and his support for the oil industry. Red yuccas need time to get established

Dear Neil: I planted red yuccas last year, and they bloomed beautifully. Last winter when I started to prune the old bloom stalks, they were so brittle that I just pulled them out. This year I had no blooms. Will they bloom next year, or do I need to plant new plants?
