Panthers crowned champions of Comanche Relays

For the second consecutive year, the Fort Stockton boys track team earned a team title at the annual Comanche Relays on Feb. 26.

Fort Stockton finished 56 points ahead of runner-up Greenwood and 59 points ahead of third-place finisher Seminole.

Fabian Perez and Zane Hodges led the Panthers with a combined five top-two finishes.

Jackson showcases track potential at Comanche Relays

Fort Stockton sophomore Ali Jackson made her presence known on West Texas cross country courses this past fall, qualifying for state for the first time in Class 4A.

Now she is making her impact felt on the track.

The sophomore claimed gold medals in the 400-meter dash and the 800 at Saturday’s Comanche Relays, and earned a silver medal in the 200.

Cude, Lujan to have primary election runoff

Two of the three local contested races for this year’s primary election were decided on March 1 and one will be headed to a runoff election in May.

The Democratic candidate race for Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 proved to be the tightest as incumbent Ruben Salinas defeated Oscar Gallegos by six votes (358-352). Salinas trailed 220-216 after early votes were reported.

Wayne Allen Nix, Sr.

Body

Wayne Allen Nix, Sr., 60, of Fort Stockton, Texas, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his loving family with songs and prayer on Feb. 27, 2022. 

Wayne was the son of C.W. and Nancy Nix who welcomed Wayne into this world on March 9, 1961, in Fort Stockton.

Wayne was a loving husband to his wife JoAnn Nix for 39 years, married June 12, 1982, and members of First Baptist Church, Fort Stockton.
