As part of the America 250 community heritage initiative, the Pecos County Historical Commission continues its effort to document and celebrate the organizations that have helped shape the history and civic life of Pecos County. This year, the commission highlighted the legacy of the Fort Stockton Lions Club, the longest continuously operating civic organization in the community, during one of its most successful and beloved service events of the year — the club’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

The countdown has officially begun for the 2026 Big Bend Open Road Race (BBORR), an event that transforms a stretch of public highway into a high-octane arena for speed enthusiasts. Known as “The Most Challenging Open Road Race in the World,” this year’s competition is set to take place from Wednesday, April 22, through Saturday, April 25.

As the nation observes Child Abuse Prevention Month this April, CASA of West Texas is calling on local residents to move beyond awareness and take direct action to support vulnerable children. The month-long campaign focuses on the importance of creating safe, stable, and nurturing environments while highlighting the critical role community members play in protecting children.

Vietnam Veterans Recognized During Pecos County Resource Event

Pecos County veterans were recognized on March 29, during a Mobile Veterans Resource event held at the Pecos County Courthouse as part of the national commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. The nationwide initiative, established through a presidential proclamation, encourages communities to honor and thank Vietnam-era veterans for their service and sacrifice.

CDRI Conant Lecture to Welcome James Cornett

Paxton calls for Hancock’s removal

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called for Gov. Greg Abbott to remove acting state comptroller Kelly Hancock, calling him an “incompetent loser,” The Dallas Morning News reported. Paxton said the governor should replace him with Don Huffines, who defeated Hancock in the GOP primary race for the post earlier this month.
