City approves amended lease agreement with Panther Pictures

A larger-than-usual crowd attended Tuesday’s regularly scheduled Fort Stockton City Council meeting – all in support of Panther Pictures. Up for debate was the lease agreement between the city and the movie theater, with some changes requested that some in the community had expressed concern about to their city council representatives.

Herman Ramos

Herman Ramos, a lifelong resident of Fort Stockton, was born May 28,1926 and passed away on Oct. 6, 2023, in League City, Texas. To many, he was a source of guidance and support, and his warm smile and gentle demeanor left an indelible mark on the lives of all fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation to celebrate Herman's rich life will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 4-7 p.m. at Eternity Funeral Home, 600 East Dickinson Boulevard.

September 17 

*Jovan Soto, of Houston. At 4:31 a.m., FSPD officers apprehended Soto and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated BAC greater than 0.15 ($1,500 bond); released the next day. 

*Daniel De La Paz Rivas, of Fort Stockton. At 11:30 p.m., FSPD officers apprehended Rivas and charged him with Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence; $4,000 bond set and still in jail.

Panther Tennis dominates Monahans

After a schedule change to beat predicted inclement weather, the Panther tennis team played host to district rival Monahans at 10 a.m. Tuesday instead of 4 p.m. The Panthers didn’t let this stop them from a dominating win though. Everyone came out firing on all cylinders to lead after doubles 7-0 and kept that confidence rolling into singles to claim the third and final district win 10-0. The Panthers concluded district play in their pink out match as district runners up. They now look forward to the post season against district 1’s third place team.

Panther runners compete in Big Spring

This past weekend the panther and prowler cross country teams made their way to Big Spring to participate in the Steer Invitational. Ali Jackson won the high school girls division with a first place finish on a difficult two-mile course. Eighth grader Bradalay JImenez won the silver medal in the middle school girls division with a strong finish. Middle school girls Alisha Padilla, Izabella Bolivar and Serenidad Vasquez improved on the difficult two-mile course that was filled with creek beds and high degree incline hills.

Sanderson man sentenced for trying to meet minor for sex

DEL RIO – A Sanderson man was sentenced in a federal court in Del Rio Tuesday to 15 years in prison for sexual exploitation of children. According to court documents, Pedro Chalambaga Olivares, 54, attempted to elicit inappropriate photos of a 17-year-old girl in June 2018, prompting the girl’s mother to contact the Texas Department of Public Safety (TX DPS) Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, who then began working with the Terrell County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO).
