Mendoza’s next fight set for November

In just over a month, Fort Stockton born boxer Abel Mendoza will once again put his undefeated professional record on the line.

The 25-year-old super featherweight will carry a 30-0 mark into The Last Stand boxing event on Nov. 20 at Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero, New Mexico – the location where he last fought.

Mendoza and his opponent German Ivan Meraz (64-59-3) will be the co-main bout on the card that is headlined by world champions Marco Antonio Barrera and Daniel Ponce de Leon.

Andrew Thomas Escajeda, 25, of Fort Stockton, passed away on Oct. 4, 2021 in Laredo.

Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021 at Eternity Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021 at Eternity Funeral Home with Pastor Mendoza officiating. Burial will follow at the East Hill Cemetery.

V's Kitchen brings casual fine dining to town

Looking for a new option to grab a meal here in town? You're in luck with the opening of V's Kitchen at 805 N. Alamo St. (formerly Burrito Inn). The restaurant opened its doors to the public two and half weeks ago and is looking to expand its menu.

Panthers top 500 yards once again in blowout win

Fort Stockton’s offense has done what they want to do, when they want to do it for a majority of their 2021 campaign thus far – averaging 483 yards of offense and 37 points per game through six outings.

But the Panthers defense has been just as impressive as their counterpart the past few weeks.

Prowlers end 5-year district drought in convincing fashion

The streak is over and a new chapter is on the horizon for the Fort Stockton volleyball program.

The Prowlers put an end to their five-year losing skid against district opponents on Oct. 5 against Andrews at home in their fourth district match of the season.

“It feels amazing. I want to cry,” said Fort Stockton senior Alyana Dominguez of her first career district win as a Prowler. “We just had the connection that we needed to have the whole entire season tonight. We finally clicked.”

Isaiah Garcia, Fort Stockton Football – The junior showed out on both sides of the ball on Friday in Fort Stockton’s 44-8 win against Crane. Garcia recorded a rushing touchdown, receiving TD, and hauled in an interception. The feat was the first time in his career he accomplished all three in one game and the first Panther to do so this season.

Fort Stockton XC trio claims medals

The hay was put in the barn for the Fort Stockton cross country team on Friday, as the team ran in their final regular season meet at the Big Bend Mountain Ramble in Alpine. The Panthers and Prowlers combined to earn three medals at the high school level and two at the middle school level.
