Pecos County Toastmasters met on Aug. 27 at noon at the Fort Stockton Public Library. Top: Lilly Gonzalez was presented the Best Speaker Award by Alicia Salinas. Congratulations to both! “Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. How many of you know Ellis Washington Bennett or what he did in the development of Fort Stockton? He was like Comanche Springs in the sense that he was forever establishing a variety of businesses to help grow the economy of Fort Stockton staring in 1909. His grandchildren are honoring him Saturday, Oct.

Fort Stockton Community Theatre hosts storytelling workshop

They say that every story has a beginning, and for 23 young people from Pecos County, it all started on Sept. 18 at the Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s Storytelling Workshop.

Master Storyteller Sue Roseberry from Midland was on hand for the day-long workshop to teach the art of storytelling and help the participants feel comfortable in front of an audience. Ms. Roseberry was helped by FSCT coaches Ruben Gonzales, Ann Hurt, Jordan Rychlik, and Molly Yeager.

Where Ya Headed?

Walking out of a hotel room with a chair and Mesquite Tree cup of coffee, a man who goes by “Squirrel” found himself marooned in Fort Stockton with his girlfriend and two dogs. “Oh, you know, I had a couple of tires fly off while driving down I-10,” he said, taking a relaxed sip of coffee.

Like many roadside attractions, Paisano Pete has become a tradition for generations of travelers. The giant roadrunner received a warm greeting from a family out of Central Texas, who have consistently visited the fiberglass sculpture over the years.

Alzheimer’s Walk

Dozens of participants showed up on Saturday, Sept. 11, at James Rooney Memorial Park in Fort Stockton to support the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Salute to Heroes

Fort Stockton High School held a Salute to Heroes ceremony before the Panthers football game on Sept. 10. The ceremony honored first responders and veterans in the community.
