They say that every story has a beginning, and for 23 young people from Pecos County, it all started on Sept. 18 at the Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s Storytelling Workshop.

Master Storyteller Sue Roseberry from Midland was on hand for the day-long workshop to teach the art of storytelling and help the participants feel comfortable in front of an audience. Ms. Roseberry was helped by FSCT coaches Ruben Gonzales, Ann Hurt, Jordan Rychlik, and Molly Yeager.

After enjoying a lunch provided by Michele Huckaby, the kids came back to tell their stories on the Nelson Street Theatre’s main stage. With friends, family and interested onlookers in the crowd, three groups, ages 6-17, took turns telling classic stories, like “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.”

“We were all very pleased with the turnout and even more excited that we had seven kids who were new to the stage,” said FCST president Alice Duerksen. “I am hoping that some of them will be in our Christmas children’s play.”

Try-outs for FCST’s production of Christmas in Comfort, written by Faye Couch Reeves and directed by Ruben Gonzales, will be Saturday, September 25th from

9:00-11:00 a.m. at the FMH Hall located next to The Nelson Street Theatre. This play is for all youth, ages pre-K through 10th grade, and will be performed December 9-12. For more information please call Ruben Gonzales at 432-290-4669.
