Fort Stockton High School went 1-3 in its annual Comanche Classic Baseball Tournament Feb. 27-29.
The Panthers won Thursday's opener against San Elizario, 4-3. The Panthers fell behind after the top of the sixth inning, 3-2, after going into the inning with a 2-1 lead. After loading the bases in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a couple timely bunts, Daren Ureste came up to the plate and hit a walk-off, two-run single to bring the Panthers a 4-3 win over the Eagles. AJ Garcia, along with Daren Ureste, had two base hits to go along with two stolen bases. Ed Prieto performed well on the mound, pitching a two-hit complete game, while only allowing one earned run.
On Friday, the Panthers lost to Lake View and Cantuillo:
• Lake View 11, Panthers 6: The Panthers started a big rally in the 3rd inning with a 2-run triple from Evian Castro. Colby Garrison pitched 4 quality innings to keep the Panthers in the game. AJ Garcia leads the Panthers with 2 hits and with 3 stolen bases.
• Canutillo 3, Panthers 2: Alex Williams went 6 innings strong innings while giving up 3 runs with 7 strikeouts. AJ Garcia led the team with 3 hits and 3 stolen bases.
On Saturday, the Panthers lost to Eastwood, 8-3, in their final game of the tournament.
• Eastwood 8, Panthers 3: Erik Bislar started the third inning with a walk and later scored on a passed ball. Devon Rodriguez led the Panthers with two hits and two stolen bases.
Other teams competing in the tournament are Kermit, Big Lake, Fabens, Big Spring, Lamesa, Presidio, and Alpine.
The Panthers play at Big Spring 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2.
