What do we mean when we talk about the silent killer? We’re talking about high blood pressure. According to the website meddler.org, there are 1.13 billion people worldwide suffering from hypertension, or high blood pressure as we know it, and 50% of these people suffer from it due to an unhealthy diet. That is pretty telling.

XC preview: Fort Stockton returns district’s top runners

If you haven’t bought stock in the Fort Stockton cross country program, no better time than the present to invest.

Junior Ali Jackson and senior Fabian Perez are the on-paper favorites to garner district crowns this fall, and the highly decorated duo will be joined by the team’s No. 3 and No. 2 runners from a season ago in Natalie Molinar and Juan Vela.

The Fort Stockton cross country team are known as early risers, practicing before the sun comes up every morning (5:15-6 a.m.). This year’s teams are as follows, varsity boys: Fabian Perez, Juan Vela, Jesus Hernandez, Diego Ronquillo, Ezekiel Soto. Varsity girls: Ali Jackson, Summer Hinojos, Natalie Molinar, Paulina Hernandez, Arissa Jimenez. Junior varsity boys: Khalil Jackson, Rylan Jimenez, Jose Sarabia, Angel Mendoza, Fabian Ramirez, Bruno Arcides, Jose Aguilar. Junior varsity girls: Ella Otierney, Marl

Mateo “Popo” M. Gonzalez, Jr.

Mateo Popo” M. Gonzalez, Jr., 94, passed away on Aug. 11, 2022.  He was born in Fort Stockton, Texas, on Jan. 31, 1928, to Mateo Gonzalez, Sr., and Seferina M. Gonzalez. 

Many years of his life were dedicated to his passion as a rancher/cowboy. After retiring from ranching, Mateo and his family moved to the city where he learned the skill of welding. He was a self-employed welder when he eventually retired from work in his 80s.
