In response to work of a committee of teachers from every Fort Stockton Independent School District campus, and both campus and district- level administrators, the Fort Stockton ISD has been approved by the Texas Education Agency as a designated Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) district. With the approval of FSISD’s application, many of Fort Stockton ISD’s teachers can now take the next step in being recognized on three different levels (Recognized, Exemplary, or Master teacher) and earn opportunities to be rewarded financially.

After a series of budget workshops, the Pecos County Commissioner’s Court and county staff have set a proposed budget for fiscal year 2023-2024. The budget reflects a tax decrease across the board.

The Pecos County Memorial Hospital (PCMH) and Fort Stockton Independent School District (FSISD) are working together to make sure students have the opportunity to receive their required vaccinations before school starts on Monday, Aug. 14.

The Iraan-sheffield Collegiate ISD, announced a change to its policy for serving meals to children served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2023-2024 school year. Schools qualifying to operate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) provide breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals.

Permian Basin Area Foundation is pleased to announce $1,190,753 in scholarship awards for the 2023-2024 academic school year. The number of Fort Stockton Volunteer Firefighters who work in Coyanosa has prompted the recommendation by Pecos County to add a substation of the Fort Stockton Fire Department to the Coyanosa area. “They’ve got about six or seven employees who work in the Coyanosa area,” said county judge Joe Shuster.

Shoppers looking for Burkes Outlet might have noticed a change at the Fort Stockton location over the past several months. Burkes Outlet made the switch to ‘bealls’ in May as part of a company re-branding of the 600 Bealls Outlet and Burkes locations in 23 states.
