COVID cases increase in county

The COVID-19 confirmed active case number in Pecos County saw a drastic increase on Sept. 28, rising from 20 to 35.

The 35 active cases are the highest number since Sept. 15, when cases were at 39.

The 20 active cases reported on Sept. 27 was the lowest number since Aug. 5 – the first week the Delta variant began to affect the area.

An additional death of a Pecos County resident was reported on Sept. 27. The person was a 69-year-old male who was hospitalized at the time in El Paso. The fatality is the 43rd death by a county resident due to COVID-19 complications since the pandemic began in 2020.

There were 17 new cases reported on Sept. 28 and only two recoveries. Out of the 17 new cases, two people were vaccinated and two people were ineligible to get the vaccine due to age restriction.

Since July 28, there has been 242 people test positive for COVID-19 who have been vaccine eligible and of those 242 individuals, 196 have not been vaccinated (80.9%)

Vaccinations increase, boosters recorded

The number of Pecos County residents who are fully vaccinated and have received one shot have continued to increase slowly. There was a 111 person increase in fully vaccinated individuals in the past week and a 49 person one-shot increase.

The county now has 61% of residents fully vaccinated and 72% with at least one shot.

The number of people who have received a booster vaccine in the county is at 230. Pecos County Emergency Management Coordinator Jessie Dominguez first reported the data on Sept. 28.
