The Fort Stockton Police Department were called out in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 20, regarding a tense situation at a residence on South Rooney Street. Thought to be a hostage situation at first, teenagers and an adult woman emerged from the house.
A cooperative force of the police department, the Pecos County Sheriff's Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety attempted to communicate with Ivan Hernandez Ramos, who also had federal warrants for his arrest, and had barricaded himself in the residence. Both landline and bullhorn were ineffective in getting Ramos to emerge, and there was some information that suggested he might be suicidal, which added to the heightened tension.
Ramos was also a person of interest in other violent crimes in Fort Stockton, and it was determined to enter the residence. He was arrested on federal warrants at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
"We considered him to be a very dangerous individual, and were determined to get him off the streets," said Fort Stockton Police Chief Art Fuentes.
