Prowlers on top of district


On Tuesday the Prowlers softball team improved to 4-0 in district play and are in sole possession of first place. The Prowlers had traveled to Monahans to take on the Lady Lobos in district action and came away with a 7-5 victory with 9 hits on the night.

Amber Corral led the way for the Prowlers at the plate, going 3-3 for the night including two homeruns. Corral’s at-bats scored 4 runs for the Prowlers and earned her 2 RBI’s. The Prowlers jumped to an early 3-1 lead in the first inning and then added 2 runs in the second inning and one in the fourth. The team held Monahans to only one run in the fourth, taking 6-2 lead. The Lady Lobos rallied and added 3 runs in the fifth inning, making the score 6-5. The sixth inning was scoreless. Then an insurance run added in the seventh by the Prowlers gave them a 7-5 victory.

On the mound for the Prowlers, it was Dominque Luna picking up the victory as she went all seven inning pitching 59 strikes out of 89 total pitches. Luna gave up 8 hits and 5 runs and struck out 3 batters and only walked 1.

This Saturday the Prowlers will host second-place Andrews with a record of 3-1 in district play as they complete the first half of district play. The Prowlers will travel to Greenwood March 5 as they start the second round of district play and then will return home to host Seminole on April 9.
