The Fort Stockton High School girls basketball team lost at Pecos Friday, Jan. 11, 46-45, amid a controversial call by a referee that gave the host Eagles an additional free throw that proved to be the game winner.
With 2.33 second left in the game, Pecos went to the free throw line trailing 45-44. The first free throw was missed. However, a "distraction" call against the Prowlers negated the miss.
Pecos went on to hit two free throw for the lead.
Fort Stockton's desperation mid-court shot missed to end the game.
The loss overshadowed a strong comeback by the Prowlers, who trailed, 25-16, at the half.
The Prowlers jumped out to a 13-10 lead after the first period, but Pecos limited the Prowlers to just three points in the second period to build a 26-16 lead.
