The Pecos County Memorial Hospital Board approved an increase base pay for LVNs and specialty pay for RNs at their regular meeting on Aug. 1.
According to Interim CEO Margaret Davis, it was requested that the base pay rate for LVNs be $18, beginning in September, to remain competitive. Davis stated that there were several nurses who wanted to join PCMH’s staff, but were waiting for the pay change to pass; therefore, they were changing the requested raise to begin in August instead of the following month. A three-dollar raise was requested for all Specialty RNs.
Davis said that approving this would help the hospital gain new nurses, while also saving them money.
Director of Nursing Gina Kalka explained that as a result of hiring more LVNs, passport nurses would no longer be needed. Kalka stated that each passport nurse could be paid different wages; however, she noted that the lowest paid passport nurse at the moment earned $58 per hour, while the highest paid earned around $70.
Davis stated that after adding the pay increases into their budget, PCMH ended up saving $50 thousand for the upcoming year.
