Panthers second at district meet


The Panther track team scored 119 points at the District 4-4A Track Meet last week to finish in second place qualifying several team members to advance to the area meet.

Results for the Panthers were:

  • 100-meter dash — Dusten Fuentez 1st, Morabie Ramirez 3rd
  • 400 — Brandon Briones 5th, Fernando Esquivel 6th
  • 800 — Brandon Briones 1st
  • 1600 — Carlos Avalos 6th, Jerome Hernandez 7th
  • 3200 — Carlos Avalos 5th
  • 110-meter hurdles — Brendon Stork 1st, Frank Rodriguez 2nd
  • 300 hurdles — Frank Rodriguez 4th, Alonso Corral 6th
  • 4x100 relay — Marcus Rodriguez, Morabie Ramirez, Dusten Fuentez, Brendon Stork, 5th
  • 4x200 — Brendon Stork, Brian Gonzales, Dusten Fuentez, Tony Rodriguez, 1st
  • 4x400 — Fernando Esquivel, Johnny Ybarra, Brandon Briones, Brian Gonzales, 5th
  • Long jump — Frank Rodriguez 2nd, Brendon Stork 4th
  • Discus — Ivan Pena 7th
  • Triple jump — Brian Gonzales 4th
  • High jump — Andric Herrera 1st, Frank Rodriguez 3rd, Jovanni Wislar 4th

In JV action the Panthers did not not come out as well as a team. They had several highlights for the meet including:

  • 200 — Jeremiah Hughes 7th
  • 4x200 — Casar Trejo, Alan Dozal, David Almanzar, Gabriel Ureste, 5th
  • 4x400 — Jeremiah Hughes, Alan Dozal, Rafael Corralez, Nick Pacheco, 5th
  • Shot put — Noah Barriga 1st
  • Discus — Marshall Daggett 2nd
  • Pole vault — David Almanzar 3rd

The Panther area qualifiers will compete in Pecos on April 21 as they fight for a spot to advance to the Regional Track Meet before the annual State Meet.
