Panthers drop a squeaker

Friday night the Panthers took on the Andrews Mustangs in a fast paced exciting game that came down to final seconds of play.

The Panthers trailed 15-12 at the end of the first quarter but came back to take a 28-27 lead into the half. The Mustangs offset the Panthers’ 1-point lead and took a 36-35 lead by the end of the third quarter. Then both teams battled back and forth in last quarter of play, and with 50 seconds left on the clock, the Mustangs took a 2-point lead. The Panthers answered back with a 15-foot jump shot by Andrew Acosta to tie the game. But Andrews was quick to add two points of their own to take the lead again with 25 seconds left in the game. Then due to time, the game became a free throw shootout. The Panthers ended the night down 52-49.

"Even though we did not win, I am proud of our effort. We never gave up and battled till the end," said coach Richard Rojas after the game.

The Panthers were scheduled to play Greenwood on Tuesday afternoon, but due to weather, travel was cancelled and the game scheduled for a later date.
