Panther basketball hits the road


The Panther basketball team competed in the O.W. Follis Tournament last weekend, opening tournament play with a 75-42 loss to Lamesa. In that opening game, Andrew Acosta led the team with 11 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Andric Herrera with 10 points.

Then the Panthers fell 49-35 to Big Spring, with Kayne Shorter leading the team with 12 points, followed by Andrew Acosta with 9 points.

The Panthers then came up short again as they took on Lubbock High, falling 87-40. Andrew Acosta again led the Panthers with 13 points, this time trailed by Kalvin Hernandez with 7 points.

Then the Panthers faced Amarillo Caprock, with Andrew Acosta once again leading the team, with 17 points this time, followed by Kalvin Hernandez with 12 points. The Panthers still came up short, falling 62-42.

Then the Panthers fell to Lubbock All Saints in their final game of the tournament, with Andrew Acosta again leading the team with 19 points.

The Panthers were back in action Tuesday afternoon night and fell to Presidio. Andrew Acosta had 16 points, 17 rebounds and 4 steals to lead the team, but Kalvin Hernandez took the leading scorer for the game as he added 20 points for the Panthers. Andric Herrera also had a big night as he added 10 points, while having 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

JV basketball report

In JV action the Panthers defeated Presidio 53-48 in overtime. Edgar Ramos led the team with 13 points, followed by Jovani Wislar with 11 points, Arian Galindo with 10 points and Jordon DeLaRosa with 8 points. Leading the defensive play for the Panther JV were David Renteria, Albert Barrera and Arian Galindo.

The Panther JV will be back in action this Thursday as they travel to the Andrews Tournament.
