McDemolished: Making way for a new McDonald's

Fort Stockton citizens have been put on a McDonald's fast as the local fast food restaurant was demolished this past week. The longstanding “Mickey D's” at 1500 N. US Hwy 285 closed its doors for good on Sunday, Sept. 24 and began demolition on Friday, Sept. 29.

Project manager of the new location, Bob Degnan, says he aims to have the construction completed by Wednesday, Nov.1, and the restaurant has announced a public opening for Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 6 a.m.

Employees Jose Llamas and Tania Gonzalez stood behind the fence of the demolition on Friday and watched the old restaurant fall to the ground.

"It's sad to see all of our memories disappear. This McDonald's has been here in town forever," said Gonzalez as she snapped some pictures of the rubble.

“She's right, it's very sad to see it gone. But the new one will be better. Right now, we're all working at the McDonald's out in Pecos, and we can't wait to work at this new one,” said Llamas.

With the departing McDonald's wiped out, it's only a matter of time for the new golden arches to be open. Hang in there just a little bit longer Fort Stockton, you'll be “lovin' it” again soon.
