7th-grade girls basketball champs


The 8th-grade Prowlers A team started the weekend falling to Midland Classical on Friday but came back Saturday to defeat Jal 41-4 to advance to the consolation bracket. The Prowlers fell short 11-14 in the final game against Midland Christian. The Prowlers then hosted Monahans on Monday night to come away with a 33-23 victory. Katy Salmon led the team with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals, followed by Raquel Bernal with 6 points.

The 7th-grade A team played in the Kermit Tournament defeating Midland Classical 22-18 in game one. Ninelly Gonzalez led the team with 18 points on the night. Then the A team defeated Kermit 25-20 to advance to the championship game, with Gonzalez again leading the team in scoring this time with 12 points. Then the Prowlers faced Midland Christian in the championship. In an exciting game with everything at stake, the A team controlled the court and came away with a 24-22 victory and the Championship.

Then on Monday, the A team was in a tough match against Monahans and fell 32-31. Ninelly Gonzales again led the team, with 18 points and 7 steals, followed by Kayla Prieto with 6 points and Shleby Murphy with 4.

The 8th-grade B team played in the Pecos tournament falling 30-12 to Presidio’s A team before falling 20-12 to Van Horn’s A team. Analiesa Ybarra led the team with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, followed by Ariliana Villarreal with 5 points and 12 rebounds. Then the B team fell 11-8 as they took on Monahans on Monday afternoon. Martika Montoya led the team with 5 points, 6 steals and 6 rebounds.

The 7th-grade B team fell 30-18 to Monahans Monday night. Karissa Roacha led the team with 6 points,followed by April Roman and Julissa Rodriguez with 4 each.
