Weather forces cancellations

Numerous athletic events for area teams were cancelled due to road conditions and power outages across the state in the past week. The Fort Stockton softball team had their seasonopener that was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb.

Bravettes blow out Bears, advance in Class 1A playoffs

Iraan sophomore Graycee Morado didn’t shy away from the challenge at hand in the biggest game of her young career on Thursday, Feb. 11 when the Bravettes played Balmorhea (7-9) in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs at Fort Stockton High School.

And her teammates didn’t either.

Madison Harvey, Kailey Rico, Abagail Smith, Dayanara Torres, and Morado scored at least one basket apiece in the third quarter to turn a 15-14 halftime deficit to a 27-21 lead.

Blue Wave swimmers conclude season

Anthony Gomez came away from the Region I 5A Swimming and Diving Championship in Lubbock as Fort Stockton’s top finisher, recording the eighth most points in the diving competition for the boys team. The Panthers placed 14th in a 30 team field while the Prowlers finished in a three-way tie for 15th place in a 28-team region.

PANTHERS JV 60 PECOS 50 Whether it was Luis Medina’s success at the free throw line or Johan Mireles efficiency shooting from behind the arch, the Fort Stockton junior varsity boys basketball team found the bottom of the net in a multitude of ways in their victory on Friday at Pecos. The Panthers started off the game hot, scoring 19 in the first quarter.

The aroma of barbecue filled the air in Fort Stockton this past weekend as 33 teams from across Texas and beyond gathered at the convention center for the Richard Reeves Memorial BBQ Cookoff. This annual event, now in its fifth year, serves as a fundraiser for the Richard Reeves Memorial, a local organization that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and individuals with debilitating illnesses. The cookoff also supports scholarships for young athletes in the community.
