The Fort Stockton cross country team took to the desert near the border and competed in the Bo Coffman Trail Run on Sept. 24 in Presidio. Junior Prowler Ali Jackson won the girl’s two-mile race, marking her second gold-medal performance of the season. Jackson crossed the finish line in 14 minutes 35 seconds. The upperclassman led her team a third place finish. Freshman Summer Hinojos joined Jackson in the top five of the girl’s division with a fourthplace finish (15:02) and returning varsity member Natalie Molinar followed, finishing in 22nd place (18:08). Ella Otierney rounded out varsity scorers by placing 25th (19:41). Juan Vela led the Panthers to a second-place finish as a team by placing seventh in a time of 18:26 in the boy’s 5K race. The Hernandez brothers – Jesus and Aryan – placed eighth and 15th respectively in times of 18:27 and 19:26. Freshman Diego Ronquillo capped varsity scorers with a 20th place finish (19:51). Madi Castro was the outstanding runner on Fort Stockton’s middle school teams. Castro placed third in the girl’s division in a time of 17:54.

Remaining placers on the Prowlers high school squad were Marlayna Salmon (23rd) and Paulina Hernandez (24th).

Finishes for the boys squad outside the top four were Jose Aguilar (29th), Khalil Jackson (38th), Zeke Soto (49th), and Jose Sarabia (55th).

The Fort Stockton will head to Comanche Trail Park for the Big Spring Invitational on Oct. 1 in preparation for the district meet in Andrews on Oct. 10.
