Eagles’ walk-off puts dagger in late Fort Stockton rally

A late Fort Stockton rally was nullified in the final at-bat of the Tuesday’s contest at Pecos for the Panthers.

Fort Stockton trailed 12-8 heading into the seventh and final frame before mounting a final inning comeback.

Julian Leyva and Isaiah Velasquez began the seventh frame with a pair of singles, which was followed by two one-out walks by the Daren Ureste and Dominic Bernal.

After another out, Jaydrien Ramirez was walked, Alfredo Molina made it on base via an error, and Corbin Luna was walked.

The flurry of pitching and defensive mistakes by the Eagles gave Fort Stockton a 13-12 lead entering the bottom of the seventh frame.

Fort Stockton closing pitcher Felipe Sotelo struck out two batters and walked three in the first five batters he faced in the inning.

The Panthers had a 13-12 lead with the bases loaded before the Eagles tied the game with a batter being hit by a pitch.

Jeremiah Tarin ended the game with a walk-off hit.

Fort Stockton outhit Pecos 13-11 but committed seven errors to the Eagles’ two.

Xzavaier Dominguez, Leyva, and Velasquez led the Panthers with two hits apiece.

Cruz Rojas was Fort Stockton’s starting pitcher and the junior struck out four batters, allowed five hits, and three walks in three innings of work.

Marco Garcia, Leyva, and Velasquez also saw time on the mound in the loss.

Fort Stockton’s district record moves to 1-2 with the loss and 12-6 overall.

The Panthers will travel to Monahans on April 1.

Mustangs hand Panthers first district loss

Fort Stockton was outhit 16-2 and the Panthers committed five errors in their third district game of the season on March 25 against Andrews.

The Mustangs took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and scored at least one run in the final four innings of the game capture the 12-2 win.

Zeke Rivera tallied a team-best three hits for Andrews.

Fort Stockton used five pitchers to finish the seven-inning contest. Sotelo got the start and threw three innings before Rylan Nunez took over pitching duties the following two frames.

Molina, Velasquez, and Leyva combined to pitch the final three innings.

Nunez had the most efficient outing of the Panther pitchers as he allowed two hits and no walks during his time on the mound.

Ramirez led Fort Stockton batters with a double. Ethan Acosta and Ureste added one single apiece.

Andrews starting pitcher Raleigh Clark struck out nine, walked three, and allowed two hits in 5.2 innings of work.
