Panthers to begin district play Friday after ‘Work Week’

The Fort Stockton Panthers used its open week to heal up and work on fundamentals and spent afternoons doing community service projects across town. “We really focused on fundamentals and getting better at some things that we really pinpointed to get better at this week,” said head coach Jeremy Hickman.

Panthers wear the crown in Homecoming win

The Fort Stockton High School Panthers ended homecoming festivities with a win. Following the crowning of this year’s Homecoming King and Queen, Aryan Hernandez and Jaslyn Pacheco, the Panthers took the field playing host to the Ysleta Indians from El Paso. After a 14-all tie at halftime, the Panthers surged in the second half to win 41-21.

Fort Stockton cross country competes in Lubbock

The Fort Stockton High School and Middle School Cross Country teams returned to the course after being rained out last week at the Lubbock Christian Invite. Seven high school runners attacked the course at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. The Panther boys were led by Diego Ronquillo with a time of 21:07.00 followed by Jose Aguilar (22:15.60) and Santiago Torango (23:49.90). The boys competed with 102 other boys in the 4A division of the meet. Coach Glasscock was pleased with the boys’ effort.

Longhorns take one on the chin at Balmorhea

Buena Vista’s Aiden Lopez sacks the Balmorhea quarterback to force a turnover on downs to start the second quarter Friday in Balmorhea. The Buena Vista fell to the host Bears 42-22 after tying the game at 6 apiece on a Jackie Jurado scoring run in the first quarter. The Bears led 34-6 when Jurado scored again to make it 34-14 in the fourth quarter. Vick Garza passed 66 yards to Jose Castro and after the conversion it was 34-22. The Bears added a late score to end it. BV falls to 2-3 on the season and after an open week this week, will travel to Meadow on Oct. 6 to face the Broncos. Courtesy photo by Staci Schoenfeldt
