William “Bill” Alfred Condit, known to most as “Cowboy,” passed away on April 9, 2023, in Fort Stockton, Texas. He was born Sept. 2, 1951, in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Royce Edward and Bobby Nell Harrell Condit.

He grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma, and was a 1969 graduate of Duncan High School.

Cowboy spent many summers as a child at his grandparents’ farm in Foster, Oklahoma, where he learned to farm and work cattle.

He graduated from Sul Ross State University with a degree in Animal Science. He managed the John Deere Implement stores in Hereford, Dimmitt, Friona, and Pecos, Texas. And he also farmed with his uncle, Paul Condit, for many years in Gaines County.

Those who Cowboy leaves behind reflect on his life as one of simple living. Many nights he could be found enjoying the sunset, with or without friends. All he truly needed was a good campfire. He loved West Texas and being a true cowboy. He was a loyal friend to many. He may have been a man of few words, but his words were always succinct and heartfelt. A pillar of the West Texas countryside. Cowboy will always be remembered with fondness.

Cowboy was predeceased by his father, Royce, in 2016; his brother, Randal, in 2022, and his grandparents, Taylor and Melva Southern Condit and William and Martha McCauley Harrell.

Survivors include his mother, Bobby Condit of Seminole; son Taylor Condit and wife, Holly, of Midland, Texas; daughter Barbee Condit of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Finley and Karsyn Condit of Midland, Texas, and sister Pat Crawford of Seminole, Texas; many Condit nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will take place on April 21, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Ratliff Funeral Home in Seminole, Texas. Pastor Joe Stewart of the First Baptist Church of Seminole will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please donate to:
