Steven “Steve” Anthony Flesher, 68, is home with our heavenly Father. His tribe of many souls joyfully welcomed him Jan. 11, 2024. Steve was born July 8, 1955, in Mineral Wells, Texas, the third of eight children. He is preceded in death by his parents Frances Mary and SFC Curtis Vance Flesher; brothers Vance, James (Jimmy), Johnny, Randy, and baby sister Mary Ann.

Zelda Fitzgerald said, “Nobody has ever measured, not even the poets, how much the heart can hold.”

Steve’s heart was bigger than Texas. He met and befriended many people all over the U.S. during his life, often by pulling off the road to help those stranded.

After serving in the Army, he became a mechanic and later a Master Mechanic, a savant with any type of engine. He kept 18-wheelers running in the Texas oilfields and he could fix your 1969 Volvo or vacuum cleaner. Steve was a Boy Scout, a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed collecting coins. He was a reader, a thinker, and a knowledgeable history buff. He loved jokes, especially telling them, always repeating the punchline, and laughing harder than anyone else in the room.

He lived on a friend’s ranch near Iraan, Texas with his beloved cats and “clunkers.” His heart was right with God. He loved Jesus, his children, grandchildren, family, nature and animals of every kind.

Steve is survived by sisters Yolanda Davis (Jerry) of Lexington, Kentucky; Sophie Marie of Georgetown, Kentucky; daughters Melissa Gibbs of Rapid City, South Dakota; Jonni Paxton and Stephanie Knoell, of Phoenix, Arizons; sons Elijah of Hot Springs, South Dakota; Malachi and Simon of Phoenix, Arizona. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

His ashes will be laid to rest at Fort Bliss Cemetery in his hometown of El Paso, Texas, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m.
