Otilia “Tillie” Franco Nunez, 85, of Fort Stockton, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family after a devastating battle to breast cancer on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022.

Otilia, “Tillie”, “Mrs. David Nunez”, “Vieja”, “Mom”, “Jefa”, “Mama”, “Momo”, “Tia”, “Sister”, “Grandma Nunez” was known by so many names, but our favorite name for her was “MOM”.

Otilia was born to Leonor Franco on Aug. 7, 1937, in Fort Stockton. She was the oldest child and took great pride in helping raise her siblings. While she only attended elementary school, she taught herself how to read and write. Mom married the love of her life David R. Nunez, Sr. on April 17, 1954. They had five children of their own and raised three of their granddaughters.

Together, David and Tillie owned a very successful business. Their home was the main headquarters to all who entered it. Mom was a great hostess for sure. Tillie was very active in many organizations. She was a Volunteer Pink Lady of PCMH, a Guadalupana, she served countless of years on the Fiesta de San Juan committee, as well as devoted countless of years serving the Catholic community of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish- St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. If we had to describe mom in five phrases it would have to be graceful, selfless, loving, determined, and feisty!

Our greatest admiration of mom was her faith. It did not matter how hard life became for her; she always reminded us to never question the cross God chose for us to carry! Her devotion to our blessed Mother was astonishing! Mama, we hope you’re dancing in Heaven with Tata!

Otilia was preceded in death by her loving husband David Nunez, Sr., Mother Leonor Franco, her Maternal Grandparents, her Sister Cynthia Franco Pacheco, her brothers Jaime Franco, and Frank Franco, her children: Rebecca Sue Nunez-Baiza, Ramon Nunez Sr., Rogelio “Roy” Nunez Sr., grandson Dominic Avila, granddaughter Erica Baiza-Ornelas.

Otilia is survived by her son David (Diana) Nunez Jr. of Victoria, Texas; her daughters: Priscilla (Arturo) Contreras of Odessa, Texas; Celina (Gabriel) Armendariz, and Briana (Ramsey) Ramos, both of Fort Stockton; grandchildren: Kristi (Mark) Hosek, Adam (Mackenzie) Nunez, Jessica Nunez, Cassandra (Chris) Cherry, Rojelio (Ashley) Nunez Jr., Analiz (Jeffrey) Gonzales, Adrian (Gabriella) Leyva, Ramon David Nunez Jr., 25 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, Sisters: Alicia (Samuel) Chavarria of Houston, Texas; Elodia Nunez, Lubbock, Texas; Brother: Max Franco, and a slew of extended family and friends who all loved our mom.

We would like to give our most sincere admiration to Maria “Mayo” Vasquez, Della Rodriguez, Cierra Armendariz, The Armendariz Boys, Idiana Perez and Family, Alexandria Diaz, and Rebecca Diaz, Dr. Young, Dr. Griffith, Dr. Bajaj, Dr. Hicks, Dr. Kadir, The Pecos County Home Health and Home Hospice Teams, and Eternity Funeral Home for helping us take good care of Mom!
