Mamie Lee Harris was born on May 8, 1929, in Germania, Texas, and passed into heaven on May 15, 2021, in Kermit, Texas. Born to Tivis and Myrtle Abbott, she was the youngest of five, with three sisters - Henry Beth Hogg, Minnie Inez Jones, and Matilda Treadway; and one brother, Tivis Rebel Abbott, Jr.

She is survived by three of her four children, Lee and her husband Scott Edwards of Kermit, Laura and her husband David Tarver of Longwood, Fla., and Amanda Evans of Fort Stockton, Texas. Her son Dalton succumbed to COVID-19 in January 2021. In Proverbs 31:28, the Bible discusses a virtuous woman and states that her children will call her blessed. Her children know they were blessed by the amazing mother she was to them.

Lee had nine grandchildren, Mary Thacker Deaver (Ronnie), Frank Thacker, Liberty Neal (Bill), Jacob Lentz (Ryan), Victoria Ginavan (Todd), Angelica Tarver, and Johnessa, Allyson, and Brent Evans. She also had 10 great-grandchildren, Laurie Lee Gosdin, Weston and Lainey Neal, Kaylei and Anthony Perna, Luke, Emilia, and Maverick Ginavan, and Kathrine and Adeline Tarver.

Lee was a secretary, a service station owner, a maintenance supervisor, and a rancher. She was a role model for women during a time when women took a back seat and were not considered the primary breadwinner. She was a mentor, a leader, and a little firecracker of a woman. She was plainspoken, and called it like she saw it.

A servant leader, she spent many years as a Girl Scout leader, 4-H volunteer, and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Stockton for over 55 years. She was a Methodist through and through. She loved the hymns, and sang them loud and proud.

A history buff, she served on the Pecos County Historical Commission for many years. She would be very excited to get to give a Historical Hysterical tour of Fort Stockton. She loved every minute of it.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Deaver, Brent Evans, John D. Hogg, Todd Ginavan, Jacob Lentz, and William Neal. Honorary pallbearers were John Berry, Trey Edwards, Tye Edwards, George Hansard, Barry McCallister, Weston Neal, Anthony Perna, Dean Ward, and Duane Wilson.

Interment was in the Desert Garden Cemetery at her home on May 17, 2021. The service was conducted by Pastor Clayton Alexander and Dr. Randy Thomas, with Kyle Card as song leader. Arrangements were handled by Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Her family and friends will miss her salty words, her quick wit, her love for dominoes, her loud singing voice, and her words of wisdom. As you approach life, take a little of Lee Harris with you - a little bit of a smart mouth mixed with a huge heart and a love of family and Jesus.
