Otis honorably served his beloved country as a Petty Officer Third Class Gunner’s Mate in the U.S. Navy from 1972 – 1978. Otis was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Known as “Big O” and “Tex” by so many family and friends, Otis was the life of every party. He was always one of the first to lend a helping hand and loved to play his guitar and sing southern gospel and good old-fashioned bluegrass. He was a teller of stories who loved to entertain anyone who had the time to listen. He also loved to cook and guarded his Pappy’s chopped BBQ recipe with his life! Truly, Otis was many things to many people, but to his family, he was that rock-steady strength that was always there to lean on. He was fiercely loyal and defended those he loved. Otis had unwavering faith in God, and it kept him through some of his most trying times.
