Carolyn Brown Carpenter, born April 13, 1938, 84 years of age, of Fort Stockton, Texas, passed away on Jan. 23, 2023, in her home in Fort Stockton.

Visitation and Memorial service will take place on Jan. 28 at the Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Stockton, Texas. Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. with the Memorial service from 4-5 p.m.

Scott Owens, Hospice pastor will be conducting the service. Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend at Fort Stockton.

Carolyn was born in Enid, Oklahoma to J. Albert Brown and Mabel Louella Bullock Brown. She went to school in Grandfalls, Texas and graduated from Rankin Texas. Carolyn and Alva Francis (Frank) Carpenter were married April 19, 1957, in the Baptist Church in McCamey, Texas. They started their married lives in Bakersfield, Texas and farmed there for many years. Carolyn had the privilege to work for the University of Texas viticulture program and she became known as an expert in tending grapevines. Carolyn was the first woman to receive the TJ Munson award of viticulture. She and Frank were able to enjoy the wine industry through travel and friends.

Carolyn was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, and friend to many. She loved to tell about her life and had many interesting experiences. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mabel, her brothers Gilford, John, and Stanley Brown, nephew Larry Carpenter and great-niece Cheyenne Johnson. Carolyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Carpenter Stoner at age 51 and after 63 years of marriage, her husband Frank.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Steven Francis Carpenter and Melody Enns Carpenter, daughter-in-law, of Dell City, Texas, and her daughter, Velma Kay Campbell and son-in-law, Steve Campbell, of Fort Stockton, and Son- in-law James Stoner of Fort Stockton; Granddaughters Laura Stoner Thorton (James) and Denise Meirhoff (Frank) both of Fort Stockton; Grandsons Jacob Campbell of Saginaw, Texas; Ben Campbell (Jessica) of Colorado City, Texas , and Dan Campbell of Fort Stockton; Great granddaughters Kayden Stoner, Zoe Baker, Jessica Meierhoff, Ciara Meirhoff and Ashlyn Meirhoff; Niece Maura Carpenter and great nephews Jacob and Kayden Johnson all of Fort Stockton; Nieces and nephews Jay and John Brown, Kyle and Tricia Brown.

Carolyn was cared for by her friend Lupe Zapata. They shared many good times and great stories. Hospice of Pecos County cannot be thanked enough for their part in caring for Carolyn through services, listening to stories and visiting and being a friend. Scott Owens came to know Carolyn through hospice and will be conducting her service.
