Our beloved Carlos Ortega, Jr, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, at the age of 44.

Visitation for Carlos Ortega will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, from 1-6 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend, 301 N. Main St. in Fort Stockton, Texas. Rosary will be Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 4094 North Highway 18 in Fort Stockton. Funeral service will take place on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church at 10 a.m.. Burial to follow at the Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery.

Carlos was born in Alpine, Texas on July 6, 1979, to Lucilla and Carlos Ortega. He graduated from Fort Stockton High School in 1997 and went on to receive his Associate degree in Criminal Justice from Midland College.

He married Amanda Reyes on April 5, 2008, in Fort Stockton, and was employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety for 13 years. He was a Regional Manager for the Texas Department of Public Safety Drivers’ License Division at the time of his passing.

Carlos was passionate about his Catholic Faith and was involved in many church activities, including being a member of the Knights of Columbus, eucharistic minister, and an altar server, but his wife and daughters were always the most important part of his life. Some of his favorite activities were officiating basketball, traveling with family, watching football and baseball. He was also a school band volunteer where he was named Super Band Dad. Carlos never met a stranger. He was an amazing father, husband, brother, son. He touched so many lives and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Carlos is survived by wife Amanda Ortega, daughters Lilyanah and Leanah Ortega, brother Rene Ortega (wife Ayerim), sister Alicia Navarrete (husband Lalo), and parents Lucilla and Carlos Ortega.

Pallbearers will be Rene Ortega and his fellow Knights of Columbus.
