Alverto G. Gonzalez, 78, of Fort Stockton, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas.

Alverto was born on April 21, 1945, to Isaura Gutierrez Gonzales and Jose M. Gonzales in Fort Stockton, Texas. After graduating from McCamey High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was an airplane mechanic on the C-130, 133 and B52’s. Alverto proudly served in the military from 1966 to 1970 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

On June 11, 1967, Alverto married the love of his life, Olga Terrazas in Fort Stockton. They went on to have a beautiful daughter, Laura Jean, and together they shared 56 years of marriage.

Alverto started a successful career in the oil and gas industry in 1972, working for Northern Natural Gas, Intratex, Enron, Sandridge, Western Gas and Cimarex. He also had his own consulting firm, AG Cathodic Protection Services, as a corrosion specialist.

Alverto was deeply involved within his community and was active with the annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Luncheon, Fort Stockton Hispanic Scholarship Program, and the Knights of Columbus. He also served as a councilman for the City of Fort Stockton.

His hobbies included golfing, hosting barbecues with family and many friends, and spending time at his ranch. He was a proud University of Texas dad and enjoyed cheering for the Longhorns and was known to have plenty of orange and white in his household. Hook ‘em! But most importantly, Alverto’s family meant everything to him as he was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

Alverto was predeceased by his parents Isaura Gutierrez Gonzales and Jose M. Gonzales; brothers Jose Gonzales, Arturo Gonzales, and Joe Gonzales; sister Yolanda Gonzales; as well as his beloved granddaughter Kiarra Taylor Ritchie.

He is survived by his wife Olga T. Gonzalez, daughter Laura Jean Gonzalez, and grandson Cgc Alverto Ritchie, nieces and nephew Clarissa Zimmerman, Julia Robertson, and Johnny Joe Gonzales.

A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, at Eternity Funeral Home in Fort Stockton. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish - St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Life Celebration Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish - St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Francis Njoku officiating. Interment to follow at Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Eternity Funeral Home.

In remembrance of Alverto’s life, the family ask that any charitable donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
