The Texas State University System Administration has begun the process of identifying potential candidates to serve as interim president of Sul Ross State University upon President Pete Gallego’s departure at the end of the spring semester.

President Gallego previously announced he will leave the university June 4, 2022.

The interim president, to be appointed later this spring, will provide steady leadership through the 2022-23 academic year and work with the System Administration on legislative and budgetary priorities in advance of the 2023 legislative session.

The appointment of an interim president will provide additional time to further strengthen Sul Ross’ academic programs, enhance the university’s student recruitment and student success efforts across all campuses, and continue to fine-tune institutional operations before TSUS embarks upon another presidential search.

Sul Ross State University is a member of the Texas State University System, which comprises seven institutions serving more than 87,000 students from the Big Bend Region of West Texas to the Gulf Coast.
