In the words of one critic, “Musical comedy is back.”

Fort Stockton Community Theatre will host Texas Comedies, a non-profit theatre group from Austin who write and produce musical comedies based loosely on Texas historical events, on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m. and on Jan. 29 at 2:00 p.m. at The Nelson Street Theatre.

Doors will open 30 minutes before the performance.

The cast and a live band of Boomtown tell the true story of promoter Ace Borger’s “overnight city” in the Texas Panhandle.

Aided by dancehall owner Mattie Castleberry and crooked sheriff “Two Gun” Dick Herwig, he sees his oil town get overrun by millionaires, criminals and Texas Rangers.

Texas Comedies will bring in some local color to their performance, as they will also include information relevant to the oil industry in the Permian Basin and Fort Stockton.

It has been Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s goal to have a venue worthy of guest performers, and The Nelson Street Theatre fits the bill with its excellent lighting and sound system.

Vida Hodges and Family are sponsoring this show to celebrate local character Delmon Hodges’ career in the oil industry. Texas Comedies is also sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, but there is still a charge to the local theatre, and the Hodges Family stepped in to help bring the show to Fort Stockton.

First National Bank is hosting a reception in FMH for the audience and cast after the Saturday night show to honor Delmon’s service on the Board of Directors of the bank.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors 65 and older and students.

Tickets may be purchased online with credit card by going to FSCT’s website, or tickets are always available at the door for cash or check. Call Alice Duerksen at 432-336-3180 for assigned seats or more information about the show. Take advantage of a small piece of Broadway right here in Fort Stockton.
