The Pecos County Sheriff’s Office and sheriff TJ Perkins introduced their newest member of their office last week, K-9 Officer Axel. K-9 Axel was purchased through a monetary donation from Eagle Claw Midstream.

Axel is a 1-year-old Belgian Malinois and was purchased from Jireh K-9 in La Vernia, Texas. Axel is trained in the detection of narcotics and will be assigned to Deputy Andres Gonzales. Deputy Gonzales has over 20 years of service, 15 years as a narcotic’s canine handler, and the last six years with Pecos County Sheriff’s Office.

Both Deputy Gonzales and Axel are assigned to the Iraan office but will be patrolling throughout the county and assisting other local, state, and federal agencies.

“We’d like to extend our gratitude to Eagle Claw Midstream and the Pecos County Commissioners Court for the opportunity in purchasing Axel. The team will now begin training for their certification in Narcotics Detection,” Perkins said.
