In a brief meeting Monday night, the Fort Stockton City Council considered city secretary Marina Cantu’s performance evaluation and pay, among other routine items. After 16 minutes, the council went into executive session to consider Cantu’s performance and, after about 20 minutes, the council reconvened with their decision.

“For the evaluation that everybody submitted and we compiled together it was basically that Nina does and outstanding job,” said mayor Chris Alexander. “We basically have no complaints, she’s rock solid, answers all our calls, emails and questions in a timely manner so we had a very high, positive review of her.”

The council approved a salary of $80,000 per year.

In other action: The council approved Resolution 23-109R, appointing and setting the pay for election officials for the May 6 general election in which a mayor and two city council members will be elected. The presiding judge will be Linda Blanco, early voting ballot board judge will be Sandy Young, and the alternate judge and alternate early voting ballot board judge will be Abbey Allen. The judges and clerks will be paid $14 per hour, up from $12 per hour during the last election.

“A minimum of three clerks will be at each polling location,” said city secretary Marina Cantu.

The council approved an agreement between the city and the Matthies-Bennett Pecos County 4-H Scholarship Auction, scheduled for April 15 at the Pecos County Coliseum. The city will include 12 vehicles in the auction ranging from a 1994 Chevrolet dump truck to a 2010 International Truck Tractor Sanitation Truck.

Ruben Falcon made the motion to approve, saying he likes the fact that it benefits local 4-H members.

Council awarded a bid for chemicals and filters for two water treatment plants to Alpha Water Resources.
