By: Frances Gomez A multi-agency task force arrested 24 people June 7 in Fort Stockton on federal drug charges. The arrests stemmed from a two-year investigation into drug dealing in Pecos County and the surrounding area. Warrants were served starting at 4 am on June 7 and all were in custody by noon that day. All the prisoners were transferred to Pecos, Texas to be held at the jail there to await arraignment. The defendants will be charged in a 27 counts federal grand jury indictment returned on May 17. The indictment charges all defendants with conspiracy to posses with the intent to distribute more than five kilograms (11 pounds) of cocaine with a street value of approximately $135,000. Confiscated at the bust were 16 oz of cocaine worth approximately $5,000, 13 weapons 17 vehicles and $100,000 in US funds. This charge will carry a 10 year to life sentence if found guilty in the federal court of law. This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration Alpine Resident Office Multi-Agency Task Force (MTF), which is comprised of agents from all different agencies including DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), U.S. Border Patrol, Pecos County Sheriff’s Department, Brewster County Sheriff’s Department and others for a total of over 100 officers onsite. These agencies all worked together to be able to bring this drug ring to a stop. There will be a hearing Tuesday, June 12 to determine if any of the defendants listed bellow will be allowed to post bail. DEA Special Agent in charge Joseph M. Arabit hopes to have the defendants on the docket for the July 16 grand jury in Pecos Texas.

Arabit stated, “DEA and our federal, state and local law enforcement partners are working together to have a positive impact at the local level. Together, we are taking these drug dealers off the streets and depriving them of the opportunity to further engage in criminal activity, which has adversely affected the quality of life in this region. We are sending a strong and unified message that drug dealing, at all levels, will not be tolerated, and, in turn, we are making our communities safer.” Pecos County Sheriff Cliff Harris stated, “We are taking these drug dealers off the streets in order to make our community a safer place to live. I would like to thank all agencies, especially the HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking areas) Task Force, who participated in the success of this long time investigation.” Mug shots and all charges are listed below.
