Pecos County Senior Center Potluck is Friday

The Pecos County Senior Citizens Center will host a potluck on Friday, Feb. 16, at Noon. The meal will be grilled hamburgers with potato salad. Everyone is asked to bring side dishes or desserts. The hamburger potluck is open to all Senior Center members and will be a great way to celebrate President’s Day weekend. The Senior Citizens Center is located at 1010 W. 14th Street and is open to all Pecos County residents 55 and older, but you may join by paying annual dues of only $5. DPS arrests more than 50 in human trafficking operations

During January 2024, as part of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Division (CID) conducted numerous operations throughout the West Texas Region. The goal of these operations was to target individuals seeking to exploit and victimize trafficking victims and to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of being involved in human trafficking by using various websites to solicit sexual acts.

School Board approves grant to Fort Stockton Educational Foundation

In an approximately 15-minute meeting Friday afternoon, the Fort Stockton Independent School District in a special meeting to approve a grant to the newly formed Fort Stockton Educational Foundation to be used for scholarships for Fort Stockton High School students who meet certain criteria. The criteria has yet to be decided.

PECOS COUNTY RODEO PLAYDAYS

Kids from 4-18 competed in the Pecos County Playdays and Horsemanship last Saturday at the Pecos County Coliseum. Age groups were broken down to ages 4-8, 9-12, 13-15 and 16-18 as the kids competed in poles, barrels, stakes, flags, goat ribbon pulling, goat-trying, breakaway, ribbon pulling, steer breakaway (12 and under), steer Roping (13 and up), and team roping for ages 13 and up. Horsemanship is Showmanship at Halter, Horsemanship and Western Pleasure. Playdays and horsemanship will also take place March 2 and April 6 at the coliseum, and kids must attend two playdays to be eligible for end of series buckles.
