Prowlers go 5-1 at Comanche Classic

After a strong showing at the Nita Vannoy Tournament in San Angelo Aug. 18-19, the Fort Stockton High School Prowlers volleyball squad played host to the annual Comanche Classic at the Bill and Virginia Williams Special Events Center last Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the varsity squad took on El Paso Young Women’s Academy, the Odessa High JV and Imperial Buena Vista. The Prowlers ran the table on Friday, downing YWA 2510, 25-19, Odessa JV 25-12, 25-21, and Buena Vista 2511, 25-11.

The Saturday pools were determined by wins, losses and points scored. This seeding system placed the varsity Prowlers in the top bracket, where the Prowlers defeated the Odessa Permian JV 25-15, 25-19, El Paso Vinci 25-16, 25-16, but ended the day with a 25-20, 25-20 loss to El Paso Socorro team.

Fort Stockton’s Junior Varsity squad also competed in the tournament, downing El Paso Da Vinci and Balmorhea in Friday’s pool play. On Saturday, the junior varsity Prowlers dropped games to Marfa and YWA and defeated Balmorhea.

The varsity Prowlers came out of the tournament with a 10-8 overall record heading into Tuesday’s trip to Odessa High. The Prowlers will also be on the road again on Friday to take on Odessa Permian.

*Fort Stockton’s Middle School Prowlers served up a new season last week, with the 8th grade White team falling to Greenwood 25-4, 25-3 and the 8th grade Blue team falling to the Rangerettes 25-16, 25-4.
