If it’s the Holiday Season, that means that once again the Fort Stockton Rotary Club will be collecting and distributing toys to the needy children of Fort Stockton and Pecos County. This year a list of more than 350 children was submitted to Rotary Toy Drive Chairman Malissa Trevino, including kids from Imperial as well as Fort Stockton.

With generous donations from the community, as well as City Bank, First National Bank, Glitzy Brew, Mortenson, Chevron, Buena Vista ISD, Fort Stockton Prowlers, Matthew and Brittany Martinez, Albert and Danielle Garcia, Alyssa Rangel, Madison Martinez and Marcie Martinez there were more than enough toys to brighten up Christmas morning.

“I want to thank the community for its overwhelming generosity,” said Malissa. “This year was the first time in a long, long time that we did not have to purchase toys with Rotary funds because the donations exceeded our list of children.”

After the toys were collected, they had to be sorted to match each child’s age and gender, then bagged up for each household. On Sunday afternoon, Dec. 17, volunteers and helpers from Rotary and other individuals cranked up their engines and made the deliveries, just in time for Christmas.
