Granado lifts Panthers over Mustangs in OT, 94-92
Joe Daniel Granado was back in the lineup for the Fort Stockton Panthers Tuesday night and the senior made it a dramatic return in a nondistrict game against the Andrews Mustangs in Andrews.
Granado scored 22 points, including a 3-pointer that sent the game into overtime, and the game-winner with five seconds left in the Panthers' 94-92 win.
Granado, who connected on three 3-pointers during the game, had missed the first four games for the Panthers due to a knee injury suffered in Fort Stockton's final football game, a playoff loss to Seminole Nov. 13.
Lambert Gonzalez led the Panthers (4-1) with 34 points. Trey Cantu also reached double figures with 26 points, including four 3s.
Reuben Flores added seven points for the Panthers.
The game was tied at 80 at the end of regulation.
Outscoring Comstock 25-6 in the first quarter, Fort Stockton cruised to a 79-48 win in a nondistrict battle of the Panthers Nov. 25 at Williams Special Events Center.
Cantu led Fort Stockton with 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Gonzalez added 19 points and Clay Howard also reached double figures with 10 points.
Cole Gossett had nine points for Fort Stockton, which led 38-18 at halftime. D.J. Galvan and Adrian Martinez each scored six points for the Panthers.
John Guajardo led Comstock (3-3) with 17 points.
Fort Stockton is scheduled to take part in the Ramada Brian Tate Wilson Memorial Tournament Friday and Saturday at Alpine High School and Sul Ross State University.
The Panthers will meet first-round opponent Van Horn at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sul Ross. The winner will play the Pecos-Ponder winner at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Sul Ross; the championship game is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Sul Ross.
