Construction progressing on PCMH addition
The new addition to Pecos County Memorial Hospital is slowly taking shape.
But even though much of the work now is still on the ground, it's going according to plan and soon enough the Physical Therapy and Wellness Center will start showing more visible signs of construction.
"We're pouring the concrete (Wednesday) morning," said Lott Brothers' John Patty, who provided a brief update Tuesday evening at the regular meeting of the PCMH Board of Managers. "By Thursday, we should have all the parking lots poured."
Patty said the concrete work was pushed back about one to two weeks to make sure the changes to the project were in place. He also told the board the project passed an electrical inspection earlier Tuesday.
The new facility is being funded by a $5 million bond election that was approved in November 2007. PCMH chief executive officer Russell Tippin said the entire funding of the bond is dedicated to the new facility.
Construction is expected to take about 10 months, Tippin said. When completed, the new facility is expected to house a cardio rehabilitation center, a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, two small pools for aquatic therapy, six therapy rooms, as well as a specialty clinic that will house out-of-town doctors, a part-time dentist and dialysis equipment.
The dialysis equipment will allow a new service to be offered by PCMH, Tippin said.
Among other business, the board:
>> approved the minutes from the Nov. 4 meeting and the accounts payable
>> approved reappointments for Dr. Elizabeth Tieman, consulting radiology; Dr. Brandon Covert D.O., consulting radiology; Dr. Russell Schroder, consulting radiology; and Dr. Bradley Bundrant, permanent emergency room physician
>> approved, pending a contract, a request for school reimbursement for Tara Calderon, a phlebotomist in the hospital's lab; the total reimbursement is expected to be about $6,000
>> approved the chief financial officer's report, the transfer of funds, and the budget amendments and line item transfers, as presented by CFO Leticia Fox
>> approved a professional services contract with Medical Center Hospital Professional Care; the contract is related to the employment of Dr. Saung Park, who is scheduled to begin work at PCMH Jan. 5; the contract has a base salary of $400,000, according to Tippin
>> approved the Infection Control Manual
