"Old Fashion Country Christmas"
Plans are underway for the upcoming Christmas Parade and activities. This year's theme will be "Old Fashion Country Christmas".
Once again we are continuing the tradition of lighting up the desert by Adopting an Island. The deadline in which all islands must be decorated by is Friday, November 28th. We want to encourage the community to have their business and residential lighting complete by Friday, November 28th as this is when the city street lamps, lights and decorations will be turned on. The annual lighting contest this year will be split into two categories: Residential and Commercial. Both categories will be judged and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be given out for each of the following: Brightest, Best Interpretation of Theme, and Best Window. Deadline for applications is Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.; return applications the Chamber of Commerce.
The annual Christmas parade will be held on Friday, December 5th and will start at 6:30 p.m. Line up will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Rio Street. Registration forms can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce at 1000 Railroad Ave. The competition categories for the parade will be judged for Best Interpretation of Theme, Best Walking, Best Riding/Driving, Best Group and Best Overall. Deadline for applications is Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Noon, return applications to the Chamber of Commerce.
The parade route will begin on Rio Street, go East on Dickinson, turn right on Main Street and South ending at Zero Stone Park. The floats will be circled around Zero Stone Park.
Join us after the parade as we get into the Christmas spirit with entertainment. Fort Stockton Leadership will be offering pictures with Santa! Refreshments will be served!
